10 Supporting Actors In Bollywood Who Deserve Leading Roles
There are actors who have put some major skills on display in the limited time their roles have in the script. So much so that sometimes their performances overshadow that of the protagonist’s. These are the promising stars who could impress the audience even more if only they play lead roles. Here then are eight supporting actors in Bollywood who deserve lead roles.
1. Amrita Puri
An incredibly talented actress, Amrita Puri hasn’t got any key roles as she clearly deserves. ‘Kai Po Che’ was an exception but we hope that there’ll be plenty of meaningful lead roles that come her way.
2. Mikaal Zulfiqar
Pakistani actor Mikaal Zulfiqar was memorable in the film ‘Baby’, putting on a cool performance which made him stand out amidst a star cast that included Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher. The handsome actor is sure to make a good leading star.
3. Radhika Apte
The critically acclaimed actress has recently landed leading roles in movies like ‘Manjhi- The Mountain Man’. Having put on dazzling performances in films like ‘Shor In The City’ and ‘Badlapur’ we certainly look forward to seeing her more in leading roles.
4. Tahir Bhasin
It’s kinda hard to pull off the role of a villain that doesn’t come off as wacky in some way. But Tahir Bhasin’s portrayal of the villain in ‘Mardaani’ was convincing enough to make us see that villains do require an acute intelligence to pull off their schemes. The stereotype is that villains are pure evil embodied, with intelligence rarely coming into the picture. Breaking that stereotype definitely requires some acting prowess and Tahir demonstrated it with panache in the film.
5. Swara Bhaskar
You’d know Swara Bhaskar from the supporting roles she played in films like ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ and ‘Raanjhanna.’ Having won accolades for her performances, picking up a few awards on the way, this beauty is well worth considering for the role of a heroine-probably one that’s character driven.
6. Deepak Dobriyal
Had Nawazuddin Siddique not made a mark in the industry yet, it would probably be hard to imagine Deepak Dobriyal one day playing a lead role in a movie. Not that he lacks acting skills-something he has proved more than once in films including ‘Omkara’, ‘Gulaal’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns.’ But now that Siddique has set a precedent for character actors to play lead roles, there’s no reason why Dobriyal shouldn’t take the lead spot.
7. Ali Fazal
Aside from the role in ‘3 Idiots’ which made him popular Fazal’s portfolio includes quite a few films alongside actors including Shahrukh Khan. With the easy charm that he exudes, he might be a worthy consideration for a lead role-if not in a mainstream venture in an independent film.
8. Lisa Haydon
Even though she was the object of attraction for three elderly men in ‘Shaukeens’ Haydon hasn’t got the attention that she deserves. She has more than proved her acting merits in the small but memorable role she played in ‘Queen’ and is easily lead material for a mainstream movie.
9. Surveen Chawala
We already saw her in a woman-centric movie, Hate Story 2. Not that her performance wasn’t upto the mark, but she wasn’t seen in any other Bollywood movie as a lead role. Though she was successful in moving a different kind of audience with her non-commercial movie, Parched. We would love to watch her in a role that matches upto her acting skills.
10. Manish Chaudhary
If you follow Nikhil Advani’s TV series, Prisoner of War, you might have already fallen in love with the actor he is. Apart from this, he was critically acclaimed for the role he played in Socha Na Tha as Abhay Deol’s elder brother. He is one of the few actors who doesn’t need to act to play a role. He simply absorbs the character within himself.
